Drew Estate started small. In 1996, Jonathan Drew was selling cigars from a tiny kiosk in the World Trade Center in New York, and his college friend Marvin Samel joined him as co-founder. By 1998 they had moved production to Nicaragua, and in the late 2000s they opened La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Estelí, one of the best-known factories in the country.

The first big breakthrough was ACID, a line of cigars infused with herbs and botanicals, developed with artist Scott "ACID" Chester. It drew in many new smokers and made Drew Estate famous for doing things differently. The company then earned respect from traditional smokers with Liga Privada, whose Liga Privada No. 9 and T52 became cult favorites. In 2011 came Undercrown, a blend the factory's own rollers created for themselves. Swisher International acquired Drew Estate in 2014, keeping its team, brands, and factory in place.

The house style runs in two directions: bold, dark, traditional blends built on Connecticut Broadleaf and Brazilian Mata Fina, and creative infused cigars unlike anything else. Both carry a playful, artistic spirit that shows in the packaging.
